Don’t Consider A Credit Card Merchant Account Without Discovering These 3 Key Factors.
We all know that if you accept credit cards whether you’re doing business on line or in the ‘real world’ you will increase your sales significantly. So it’s simple really, take cards and earn more money, right?
Hopefully yes, but the problem is that not all merchant accounts and merchant account providers are the same. If you pick the wrong one, you could really be facing an uphill battle.
Here are 3 key factors you need to consider when picking a Merchant Account Provider:
1. You need to aware that there is no standard rate charged by a Merchant Account Provider. There are many different rates that can apply based on the card and situation that the payment is taken in.
Many merchant providers will offer what seem to be very low rates but these are often just an introductory rate to encourage people to sign contracts.
2. Long Term Contracts. Don’t sign one! Many companies out there will insist that it’s the industry standard and that you need to do it. Don’t, most have expensive termination fees if you want or need to get out early and a good company with a high level of service will not need a long term contract.
Unfortunately for many people, once youre in a long term contract a Merchant Account Provider can effectively treat you how they like.
3. Make sure you know exactly what kind of support team they have. It isn’t all the same. At some point everybody needs to contact their Merchant Account Provider for support. Make sure you choose a company that has separate teams for sales, customer service and technical support.
That way you can be sure that there is a specialist on hand no matter what your problem is, and that you do not lose any business.
